Chimney Fires

Chimney Fires
Chimney fires are caused by the ignition of excess creosote in your chimney. They are 100% preventable with periodic chimney cleaning and inspection.

If you see flames or heavy smoke coming from the chimney or if you hear a loud rumbling noise in your home you may be experiencing a chimney fire.

If your chimney is on fire immediately call 911 and evacuate the building. Close dampers on your wood stove if you can do so safely. MVFD does not recommend putting water on these types of fires.
