With the cold weather comes Ice Skating, Ice Fishing and, for the MVFD, Ice Rescue. Over the years the MVFD has rescued several people who fell through the ice.
You should never consider the ice safe. Consider that ice thickness is not consistent – there are always thin spots.
Ice is always changing. Conditions today may not be the same as they were the day or week before.
Always have a buddy if you go out on the ice.
If you witness someone fall through the ice call 911 immediately. We have specialized equipment to safely effect a rescue.
